Wales have released the 20-member roster for the FIH men’s hockey World Cup in India next month. Wales will make their Hockey World Cup debut. Chile will also play at the tournament for the first time. With hosts India, England, and Spain in Pool D, Wales will start their campaign against neighbours England.
As a part of Great Britain, Wales has won only one major title to date, a bronze medal at the 1908 Olympics. As an integral part of the Commonwealth Games team, it recently finished sixth at the 2022 Birmingham Games, the highest ranking for the team to date at the CWG.
Following their involvement in the FIH men’s pro league, Draper and Shipperly return to the squad. In August 2022, Study in Wales was announced as the sponsor of the Wales National team. Luke Hawker, Lewis Prosser, and Shipperly will share the captaincy duties. This will be one of Wales’ most prestigious tournaments after having struggled financially for so long.
